Mercer & Hole's Chris Laughton elected as Deputy President of INSOL Europe

Mercer & Hole chartered accountants, TIAG member firm in London, England, are delighted to announce that Chris Laughton, a Restructuring & Insolvency partner based in Mercer & Hole's London office, has succeeded to the deputy presidency of INSOL Europe, the European organisation of professionals who specialise in insolvency, bankruptcy and business reconstruction and recovery.

Chris's was elected into the role of INSOL Deputy Present on 1 October 2009 and will fulfil this role for a year.  The year will culminate in Chris taking up the full Presidency this time next year.

Speaking from Stockholm at the conclusion of INSOL Europe's 2009 annual congress last week he comments "I am delighted to take up this role at a time when restructuring and insolvency professionals are busy across Europe. Experience of cross-border advisory and formal insolvency work - and having local contacts throughout the region - is the key to effective professional practice in this field."

As a business recovery partner in the London office of Mercer & Hole, Chris Laughton acts for management, creditors and other stakeholders, adding value to financially troubled enterprises of all sizes, from small privately owned businesses to listed international groups. His approach is to work with the key stakeholders to solve business recovery problems with practical action and advice, seeking to avoid insolvency procedures where possible, but taking formal UK insolvency appointments when necessary.

Chris is one of a small number of UK insolvency practitioners who are well-positioned to respond to the range of understanding and expectations of stakeholders from different jurisdictions in cross-border business recovery cases.

Chris has acted in a huge range of debtor-led and creditor-led recoveries in the UK and internationally, in addition to pre-funding reviews for lenders and investors, in industry sectors including retail, manufacturing, utilities, engineering, printing, wholesale and distribution, leisure, professional practices, property and construction, contracting, not-for-profit organisations, recruitment, media, dot.coms and telecoms. 

Chris is the editor of Recovery, the quarterly journal of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3), Deputy President of INSOL Europe and joint chief editor of Eurofenix, INSOL Europe's quarterly journal.  Chris is also the chief contributor to Insolvency Blog.
