National accounting and advisory firm, Weaver, is pleased to announce Mike Stein, CPA, has rejoined the firm as a partner in the growing Energy Compliance Services practice. Based in the firm’s Houston office, Mike will be responsible for working with clients on strategic planning related to large-scale energy compliance and fuels regulations initiatives.
With more than 18 years of experience in the energy industry, Mike started his career as an intern with Weaver in 2004 and stayed with the firm for 15 years. During this time, he worked in the firm’s Risk Advisory Services and Energy Compliance Services groups, providing risk management, business process improvement and internal audit services, as well as attestation services required under the Environmental Protection Agency’s Code of Federal Regulations.
Most recently, Mike served as the director of financial projects for a publicly traded offshore oil and gas exploration and production company. In this role, he focused on a variety of reporting and energy transition related issues, including the development of policies and procedures to support the company’s ESG reporting and disclosure initiatives and their emerging carbon capture and sequestration business.
“I am thrilled to have Mike return to the firm in our Energy Compliance Services practice,” said John Mackel, Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer. “As one of the country’s leading providers of EPA attestation services, Weaver has an exceptional group of energy compliance professionals. Mike’s understanding of the regulatory landscape will be beneficial to serving our clients and advising them on all of their fuels regulation compliance needs.”
A Certified Public Accountant, Mike earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas Tech University and a Master of Accountancy from the University of Texas at Dallas. He is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.
