Steven Yu, managing partner of International Practice with Hiways Law Firm, was named lawyer of the month for February 2020 by asialaw. In particular, asialaw applauded Yu’s extraordinary success in representing Chinese industries to win a case in front of the U.S. International Trade Commission, concerning imports of fabricated structural steel products from the People’s Republic of China as well as Mexico and Canada (https://www.asialaw.com/articles/lawyer-of-the-month-february-2020/arggbtam).
The remarkable case is among the turbulence between the two biggest countries over the last few years. The US who has taken aggressive restrictive measures on Chinese steel products, decided to levy heavy antidumping and countervailing duties on fabricated structural steel products from the above said three countries. Over a year Dr. Yu led Hiways team, in coordination with partner firms to argue against such attempt, including appearing in the hearing held the U.S. International Trade Commission in late January 2020. As a result, 3 out of the 5 Commissioners voted negatively and determined to terminate the case without any measures.
This is one of the many rewards Dr. Yu received from home and abroad. He was three times selected "Clients' Choice" by Asian Legal Business, and 4 consecutive years "Top 100 Legal Elites" by China Business Law Journal. In addition, he was repeatedly recommended by Chambers and Partners. Notably, he specializes in trade, cross border investment corporate, intellectual property as well as dispute resolution.
