Since joining the firm in 2009, Gay’s practice has included a wide range of litigation and bankruptcy matters in both federal and state courts, at the trial and appellate levels, with significant experience in insolvency and restructuring matters, shareholder and partnership disputes, real property disputes, and collection matters.
Gay has been recognized in the 2017 edition of The Best Lawyers in America®, and has received recognition in Florida’s Super Lawyers since 2009 for both Business Litigation and Bankruptcy.
He received his J.D. cum laude from University of Florida Frederic G. Levin College of Law, and also earned his B.S.B.A. from the University of Florida. Prior to attending law school, Gay served as a Military Intelligence Officer in the United States Army.
Since joining Berger Singerman in 2007, Hinkes has represented leading companies and entrepreneurs in state and federal complex commercial litigation matters related to contract litigation, representation of court-appointed fiduciaries, business torts, trade secrets litigation, and electronic discovery issues. He also advises clients regarding data breach response, document retention, electronic privacy issues, website terms of service and privacy policies.
Hinkes, a well-known authority on the topic of bitcoin, blockchain, and smart contract technology, is a member of the E-Discovery Committee of the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar, Digital Currency Council, Digital Currency & Ledger Defense Coalition, and is a member of the Mt. Sinai Medical Center Foundation’s Young Presidents Club. As a highly esteemed attorney, Hinkes has been recognized in South Florida’s Legal Guide as a “Top Up and Comer” this year, and by Florida Trend as an “Up & Comer” twice along with a “Legal Elite” honor. Florida Super Lawyers also named him as a “Rising Star” in 2013 and 2015, and, also, for his Business Litigation, E-Discovery, and Employment & Labor work in 2014.
