Reid and Riege, P.C. is pleased to announce that Alan H. W. Shiff, retired United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Connecticut, has joined the firm as a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution: Arbitration and Mediation practice. Judge Shiff will serve as a mediator and arbitrator in a range of matters in both state and federal courts.
Reid and Riege’s Managing Partner, Jon Newton, said of Judge Shiff joining the firm “We are very excited to expand our ADR practice with such an esteemed professional like Judge Shiff. Nearly three decades ago, I appeared before Judge Shiff in my first hearing as a young and inexperienced lawyer. Over the next many years, I learned a tremendous amount from him in my various trips to his Court. Judge Shiff’s sense of fairness and integrity were evident throughout. To now be associated with Judge Shiff is indeed an honor, not only for myself, but also for our entire staff.”
Judge Shiff served as a United States Bankruptcy Judge from 1981 until 2015. During his time on the bench, Judge Shiff presided over a wide variety of bankruptcy and commercial disputes, and conducted trials in hundreds of matters. In many cases, Judge Shiff mediated complex disputes among multiple parties. Judge Shiff was the recipient of the Honorable Robert C. Zampano Award for Excellence in Mediation on May 8, 2002.
