Carter Newell (Queensland Australia) welcomes to the partnership Karen Brown and announces the elevations of Jayne Atack to Senior Associate, and Sadia Stathis, Grant Thomas and Thomas Byrne to Associate.
Karen Brown, Partner advises both private and public sector clients in the commercial property industry on a broad range of property related matters. Karen has extensive experience working with clients on all aspects of commercial property transactions for significant commercial, industrial and rural properties including the sale and acquisition of development sites, CBD office buildings, shopping centres, retirement villages and hotels. She also advises clients in relation to high value leasing transactions of commercial, retail and industrial property and advises developer clients in relation to the structure and contract preparation for large scale residential, commercial and mixed use developments including the negotiation and implementation of development management agreements for master planned communities and other developments.
Also in the Commercial Property team, Jayne Atack, Senior Associate has more than nine years experience acting in matters in relation to the sale and purchase of commercial buildings, due diligence, negotiating sale and acquisition contracts and acting for both the landlord and tenant in lease drafting and negotiations. Jayne has worked for a broad range of clients including property developers, shopping centre owners, statutory companies, private companies and individual clients and also has experience in advising private companies in a range of commercial matters including the sale and purchase of businesses and shares in private companies.
Sadia Stathis, Associate has had extensive general and aviation insurance experience. Sadia’s insurance experience includes conducting the defence of a wide range of property damage and personal injury claims including public liability claims, WorkCover claims and product liability claims. She also has aviation insurance experience having specialised in areas of litigation involving personal injury, property damage, product liability and subrogated recovery actions.
In the Property and Injury Liability team, Grant Thomas, Associate practises across a broad range of public and product liability claims for insurers. Grant specialises in personal injury, product liability and property damage claims on behalf of insurers across Australia. Prior to commencing his legal career, Grant gained experience in personal injuries matters firstly at the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) (NZ), and at WorkCover Queensland.
Thomas Byrne, Associate practices in the Financial Lines insurance team, and is based in the firm’s Sydney office. Thomas’ experience includes providing policy coverage advice for insurers and commercial clients, in addition to advising on and defending complex high value claims in D&O, ISR, property, professional indemnity, construction, marine and financial sectors. Thomas also acts for major insurers in matters which often involved litigation and arbitration. Thomas is an accredited civil and commercial mediator, qualified at the London School of Mediation.
