Williams Mullen (North Carolina and Virginia, USA) announced today that John L. Walker, III has been elected Chairman of the Board of Governors of The Virginia Bar Association for 2012.
This election puts Mr. Walker in line to become the 125th president of the VBA in 2014. Mr. Walker will be the third lawyer from Williams Mullen to hold this prestigious position.
Mr. Walker’s areas of practice include business litigation, commercial litigation, land use/real estate litigation, banking litigation, insurance law, local government law, construction litigation, trust and estate litigation, product liability defense and securities litigation.

Mr. Walker is an active member of the legal community. He is a past president of the Virginia Law Foundation, a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation, and a past chairman of the Young Lawyers Division of the Virginia Bar Association. In 2008, he received a “Leader in the Law” award from Virginia Lawyers’ Weekly. He has also been honored as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” by Best Lawyers, “Virginia’s Legal Elite” by Virginia Business magazine, and “Virginia’s Super Lawyers” by Super Lawyers magazine.
Mr. Walker is also a leader of non-legal organizations. He is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Collegiate School and serves on the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of The University of Virginia College of Arts and Sciences Foundation. He is a past board member of The Nature Conservancy (Virginia Chapter), Theatre IV (past president), The Powell Center for Economic Literacy (past chairman), and other community organizations.
