Randall D. Crocker, President and CEO of von Briesen & Roper, s.c. (Wisconsin, USA), today announced that the firm has been awarded the 2011 International Legal Technology Association’s (ILTA) Emerging Technology Champion Award.
The award was presented to William Caraher, CIO, at the ILTA annual conference in Nashville.
The award recognized the firm’s use of emerging technology in redesigning its Intranet. von Briesen assembled an innovative and “Social” Intranet using a variety of Open Source Software solutions. “This is a great achievement, because we were recognized by our peers and the thought leaders in legal technology,” said Caraher. “Open Source Software can yield amazing results for very little cost. We consistently seek innovative methods to deliver greater value to our clients, attorneys and staff. This project and the award showcase the reality that cutting-edge technology is possible without a huge expense.” The total licensing fees for the project came in at under $800. Similar mainstream software would have cost the firm more than $55,000, in addition to annual maintenance fees.
“I am very proud of our firm’s IT Team for their commitment to excellence in meeting or exceeding the expectations of our clients and our lawyers. I believe we are among the most tech-savvy law firms in the country and our technology allows us to provide clear, cost-effective and value-added legal advice and representation. Our technology assets have proven to be a major resource in client service, lawyer recruitment and effective advocacy,” Crocker said.
