Voisin (Jersey) Solicitor Lee Ingram has been elected to the Fellowship to the Chartered Insurance Institute. Election as a member of the CII is globally regarded as the prestige
appointment of anyone involved in insurance markets. Acquiring Fellowship accreditation recognises the highest form of knowledge, experience and professionalism and is universally regarded as the premier qualification for those involved in the insurance industry.
The route to Fellowship is lengthy; an individual only becomes eligible to apply for fellowship after holding Associate level for at least three years and demonstrating considerable commitment to the candidate’s own professional development, in a wide range of subjects examined at the highest level. Fellowship confirms that such commitment has attained one stage further, demonstrating Continuing Professional Development through a major achievement and planned acquisition of skills and knowledge to the satisfaction of the Fellowship Advisory Board of examiners.
All Fellowship applications are assessed by specially trained Fellows. Three assessors (Fellows of long standing) are appointed to review and evaluate an application. Each assessor receives a copy of the major achievement and examines the applicant’s statement of personal achievement.
Following his election, Lee joins a small number of fellows presently in the Channel Islands, with his election being the first in six years within the Island.
Lee’s election coincides with the formation of the Jersey International Insurance Association (‘JIIA’), which has been launched to encourage development of Jersey’s insurance sector within the reinsurance and captive insurance markets.
The expertise available in Jersey’s legal and international finance sectors, together with the presence of the leading accounting firms and the Island’s investment expertise, mean that few international finance centres can match Jersey’s range of resources to support and assist the development of the Island’s insurance sector.
Richard Packman, Chairman of the JIIA, commented: “For many years insurance-related business has been transacted in Jersey, but perhaps not sufficiently publicised. Jersey is currently experiencing a swell of interest and activity in this area with new captive insurance applications as well as enquiries from insurers and reinsurers who are considering re-domiciliation. The JIIA has been formed to build on this interest and to provide a voice for the industry here.”
