Channel Island HR specialists, Compass HR Offshore, have partnered with Voisin law firm (Jersey) to offer the first qualification in Jersey to focus solely on local Employment Law.
The new qualification, entitled ‘Jersey Employment Law - Management and Practice’, comprises 5 modules: Jersey Employment Law in Context; Creating & Maintaining the Employment Relationship; Terminating the Employment Contract; Employment Tribunals and Impending Legislation. These subjects are essential knowledge for local business owners, HR professionals and line managers with responsibility for managing the employment relationship.
This qualification is the first of its kind. Previously, local professionals could only study UK employment legislation, creating a significant local knowledge gap. The new qualification will make it possible for Island based professionals to access the knowledge required to effectively manage the lifecycle of the employment relationship within the relevant legal framework.
Compass have gained a reputation as being a “centre of excellence” for the design and delivery of HR and Management qualifications in the Island, achieving “firsts” for CIPD and ILM students on their innovative programmes over the past 2 years.
Tina Monro, Course Director for the programme, said that she is delighted that Compass has been able to respond to the demand for such a qualification and to be partnering with Voisin to deliver the learning.
Tina Monro and Jacqui Richards, Founding Directors of Compass and Fellows of CIPD and ILM, will lead the Compass team of tutors on the qualification. Their HR and L & D experience spans a collective 30 years and has covered all aspects of HR activities, up to and including Board level appointments. This enables them to draw on their own employee relations management experience to add relevance and value for learners.
A team of Voisin’s Employment Law experts, led by Dexter Flynn, will be supporting the course delivery. Dexter Flynn is a highly respected and experienced English Solicitor. He has been with Voisin’s Litigation department for more than 15 years and has been involved in many high profile legal cases and employment disputes, including notable Royal Court and Employment Tribunal decisions. He is also the co-author of the Jersey Employment Law chapter of the Practical Law Company’s "Labour & Employee Benefits Handbook".
The first module starts Autumn 2011 and learners can enroll on either a modular or complete qualification basis.
Interested parties are invited to a launch presentation on Thursday 16th June 2011 at Totem Club, Halkett Place. The event will run from 12noon to 2pm with the presentation at 12:15pm, followed by drinks and canapés. Please RSVP to sylvianne@compassjersey.com or georginajeffries@voisinlaw.com.
