He represents nursing homes, assisted living facilities and hospitals and other types of health care entities in the areas of survey and certification, licensure, regulatory and corporate compliance, risk management, HIPAA compliance, operations and transactional matters.

Lightfoot was recognized in Madison Magazine as one of the top health care lawyers in Dane County (2007, 2009) and is listed in Best Lawyers in America® in Health Care Law. He is an active member of the Assisted Living Federation of America, Wisconsin Assisted Living Association (Board member and immediate past-President), American Bar Association (Health Law Section), State Bar of Wisconsin (Health Law Section Board), American Health Lawyers Association (Long Term Care Section), Wisconsin Health Care Association, and Wisconsin Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. He earned a J.D. in 1995 from Hamline University School of Law, a B.S. in 1990 from Middle Tennessee State University, and a Diploma in Nursing from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1986.
Lightfoot is a frequent lecturer on health care facility regulation, operations and issues affecting health care professionals. He is a contributor to WALA Watch, the newsletter of the Wisconsin Assisted Living Association. A native of Marshfield, Wisconsin he resides in Verona, Wisconsin with his wife, Peggy, and their family.
