2 to Join the Partnership Amidst Growth at Carter Newell

Carter Newell is welcoming two new partners effective 1 July 2024 – Peter Motti who is leading the Corporate & Commercial team and Greg Stirling in the firm’s highly acclaimed Insurance team.

The firm is known for its deep expertise, with a strong partnership leading its specialty insurance, construction, projects & infrastructure, corporate legal services, and dispute resolution & litigation teams.

CEO Marc Walker commented on the new appointments, “Peter and Greg are deserving additions to our partnership and will play instrumental roles as Carter Newell primes for significant continued growth.”

Peter Motti strengthened the firm’s Corporate & Commercial team when he joined in mid-2023 with more than a decade of experience, both in Australia and internationally.

Greg celebrates 10 years with Carter Newell in 2024 in the firm’s highly acclaimed insurance team and is recognised by Best Lawyers in Australia 2025 for Professional Malpractice Litigation.

Effective 1 July, the firm is also elevating Joseph Brighouse to Special Counsel in the Brisbane Professional Liability Insurance team, and to Associate Chelsea Lee in the Sydney Construction, Projects & Infrastructure team.

Also in the Sydney office, the firm has welcomed to its Corporate & Commercial team Special Counsel Tania Zordan.

Marc Walker also noted that “We continue to develop and promote staff across our firm including support services where team member Caitlin Ireland has been promoted to Marketing Coordinator.”

Peter has more than a decade of experience assisting clients navigate the law to achieve their corporate and commercial goals. Described by clients as accessible, responsive, sharp, and straight-talking, Peter combines his commercial nous with specialist legal expertise, both his own and that of fellow lawyers, to tailor his advice and achieve the best outcomes for his clients. His experience includes advising clients, both nationally and internationally, on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings, employee share schemes, commercial contracts, PPSR and general commercial matters within a broad range of industry sectors including agriculture, technology, engineering and infrastructure, government, real estate, and communications. Peter’s clients range in size from large family enterprises to ASX-listed and multinational corporations. Prior to joining Carter Newell, Peter worked for a major top-tier national law firm in Brisbane and an international law firm in Doha, Qatar.

About Greg Stirling
AS an experienced litigator and specialist insurance lawyer, Greg has experience in a range of complex and high-value professional indemnity and D&O liability claims. He has acted as defence counsel for insurers and their insureds, with a particular focus on claims involving solicitors, barristers, veterinary surgeons, accountants, and design & construction professionals together with advising and acting on behalf of insurers in complex coverage matters. He also has experience acting across the full spectrum of disputes, from unlitigated claims to complex litigation in the State and Federal Courts. He regularly appears in Court and represents clients in mediation and dispute resolution processes. Prior to joining Carter Newell, Greg worked for an international firm providing advice to insurers in the defence of litigious claims in a range of professional indemnity matters.

About Joseph Brighouse
Joseph has over 10 years’ experience as a professional liability lawyer having predominantly acted for accountants, solicitors, certifiers, migration agents, financial advisors, healthcare professionals, real estate agents and commercial property managers in both pre-court and litigated claims. Joseph also regularly acts for companies and individuals in workplace health and safety investigations and prosecutions arising from workplace injuries and fatalities. His experience spans all stages of the investigation and prosecution process, including sentencing hearings and defended trials. In addition, Joseph also represents clients with respect to employment claims involving sexual harassment and discrimination and personal injury.

About Tania Zordan
Tania is a corporate and commercial lawyer with 30 years’ experience acting as trusted adviser to global corporate entities, ASX listed companies, multi-national franchise networks and professional service entities. Tania has a particular interest in setting up foreign companies in Australia, either by setting up an Australian branch or by acquiring an Australian company. She has acted for leading French, international companies in establishing and growing their businesses in Australia. Her corporate and commercial experience has included complex mergers & acquisitions in a wide range of industries and spanning multiple jurisdictions. She has transactional experience in leading IPOs and back door listings. In addition, Tania advises on all aspects of corporations law including equity capital markets (ECM), capital raisings, share buybacks, corporate governance and employee share schemes.

About Chelsea Lee
Chelsea is an experienced construction, projects & infrastructure lawyer, having advised an array of clients including builders and suppliers on their construction disputes across several jurisdictions. She also has experience advising on front-end construction matters as well as workplace relations and environmental compliance matters, gained from her time within a major multinational mining corporation. Chelsea is skilled at navigating security of payment legislation and advising on different types of claims including defect claims and variation claims. Her clients recognise her for being diligent and proactive, and she enjoys using these skills to walk clients through disputes and provide pragmatic solutions.
