Casner & Edwards announces that Trusts & Estates partner Katie L. S. Von Kohorn was elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation (ABF). ABF Fellows are a global honorary society of attorneys, judges, law faculty and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession. Membership in the Fellows is limited to one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. All Fellows are recommended by their peers and elected by the Board of the ABF.
Von Kohorn is a partner at Casner & Edwards and a member of the firm’s Executive Management Committee. She also co-chairs the firm’s Women’s Initiative and the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee. Her practice focuses on trusts and estates and exempt organizations. She advises both individual clients and generations of families with respect to estate planning, including estate and gift taxes, probate law, estate and trust administration, inter-generational planning, planning with digital assets and philanthropy. She also serves as trustee of numerous trusts and works extensively on the investment, tax and legal aspects of trusts, as well as with the varied interests of trust beneficiaries. Additionally, Von Kohorn counsels trustees and exempt organizations on issues pertaining to tax exemption, fiduciary responsibilities and charitable trust law. Von Kohorn chairs the Boston Estate Planning Council’s (BEPC) Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force.
The ABF studies the relationship between society and the law. Its mission is to advance justice and the understanding of law through empirical research, publications and enrichment programs. The ABF is a non-profit whose members are lawyers, judges and legal scholars. The ABF Fellowship Program supports the research for the ABF through annual contributions as well as sponsor seminars and events of direct relevance to the legal professions.
