Special Counsel elevation
Being elevated to Special Counsel is Sarah Ewing (Litigation & Dispute Resolution – Brisbane). Sarah has a specialised focus and extensive experience advising on complex, high value and multi-party disputes involving allegations of negligence, breach of contract, and contraventions of the Competition and Consumer Act 2011 (Cth) and Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) issues. Sarah regularly assists clients of the firm with advice in relation to insolvency issues.
Senior Associate elevation
Olivia Clark (Construction & Engineering – Brisbane), Kirsty Preston (Corporate – Brisbane), and Madeline Condon (Construction & Engineering – Sydney) have all been elevated to Senior Associate.
Olivia Clark has practiced predominantly in construction insurance law and deals with matters involving industrial special risks policies, annual construction and project works policies and general liability and professional indemnity insurance policies in the construction and engineering industry.
As a corporate lawyer, Kirsty Preston has been involved in several high-value multimillion-dollar transactions. She has advised on a mix of sell-side and buy-side transactions. She has been exposed to various consideration structures, including partial cash and scrip consideration, completion adjustments, locked boxes and earn-outs. Kirsty also has experience with a range of other corporate matters including corporate governance, capital raisings, due diligence, corporate restructures, employee incentive plans, commercial agreements, and general corporate and business issues.
Madeline Condon is a specialist construction insurance lawyer and represents a range of clients including domestic and international insurers, and building contractors and consultants. Her specialisation includes providing indemnity advice and resolving indemnity disputes, subrogated recovery proceedings and defence of liability claims against construction professionals.
Associate elevation
Being elevated to Associate are Ashwin Devanathan (Property – Brisbane), Katie Proctor (Insurance – Brisbane), and Mikaela McKinnon (Construction & Engineering - Sydney).
Ashwin Devanathan is part of Carter Newell’s Commercial Property team. Ashwin’s expertise encompasses property sales and acquisitions, commercial, industrial and retail leasing, property development and strata and community title law. He advises key developer clients in relation to commercial, retail, mixed-use and residential developments and has handled multi-lot transactions for off-the-plan apartment projects, residential townhouse projects and vacant land sales.
As part of Carter Newell’s Financial Lines team, Katie Proctor works on matters relating to professional indemnity for a wide range of clients including real estate agents, building professionals, accountants, brokers, body corporates and universities in both pre-court and litigated claims. Her expertise includes assisting as both defence and coverage counsel in a range of insurance-related matters.
Mikaela McKinnon is a member of the Construction & Engineering team. She has been involved in several large and complex litigated construction disputes for the construction industry as well as their insurers. Mikaela provides advice to insurers concerning professional indemnity claims, contract works, and plant and equipment claims across the various professionals within the construction and engineering industry.
