Osborn Maledon is pleased to announce that James D. Smith, former Maricopa County Superior Court Judge, has joined the firm as a partner. Smith’s practice will focus on trial and appellate representation in complex commercial litigation. He also serves as an arbitrator, mediator and special master.
He is a member of the American Arbitration Association’s Roster of Arbitrators.
Smith served as a Superior Court judge for seven years, presiding over hundreds of jury trials, bench trials, evidentiary hearings and oral arguments. His civil trials included commercial liability issues, consumer fraud, contract disputes, professional malpractice and personal injury claims.
Prior to being appointed to the court in 2015, James practiced at local firms for more than eight years. He is a former advisory board member for the Salvation Army of Phoenix and a board member of the Arts & Business Council of Greater Phoenix.
He earned his legal degree at the University of Notre Dame, where he was articles editor of the Journal of Legislation, and his bachelor of science degree at Arizona State University.
