Geospatial World named Kevin Pomfret Geospatial Ambassador of the Year at its annual Geospatial World Forum (GWF). Pomfret and other award recipients were recognized for a variety of accomplishments and for their valuable leadership in the geospatial industry.
Pomfret, a corporate transactional attorney at Williams Mullen, is chair of the firm’s Unmanned Systems Team and is a co-chair of its Data Protection & Cybersecurity Team. Pomfret counsels companies across a variety of industries that collect, process, analyze and distribute geospatial information—including space, autonomous systems, mobility, data analytics, software and cloud service providers and retail. He works in practice areas critical to these industries, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital investments, privacy and cybersecurity, regulatory matters, commercial and government contracts, and data and software licenses.
As a former satellite imagery analyst, Pomfret is also a thought leader in geospatial technology with almost 30 years of experience in the geospatial community. He has presented at Congressional hearings and United Nations’ committee meetings and is a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Advisory Committee on Commercial Remote Sensing (ACCRES) and the UN-GGIM Working Group on Policy and Legal Frameworks for Geospatial Information Management. He is also an adjunct professor on Geospatial Law and Ethics at Johns Hopkins University and regularly conducts training and workshops across the globe on legal and policy issues associated with the collection, use, storage and distribution of geospatial information. Pomfret was recently recognized in Who's Who Legal’s “Transport 2021 – Space & Satellites - Legal Marketplace Analysis,” and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America© (2021) for data protection/privacy.
