Joining the partnership are Peter Dovolil (Insurance), Milton Latta (Insurance) and Jonathon Wood (Corporate).
Carter Newell is also pleased to announce the elevation of Amy Heselwood (Litigation & Dispute Resolution) to Special Counsel.
The promotions are effective 1 February 2022.
Managing Partner Paul Hopkins said welcoming three partners to the partnership is a very exciting time for the firm. Our pathway to partnership is a testament to the superior quality of these lawyers and to have three lawyers joining the partnership naturally provides a boost to the firm.
“It is always an exciting time when we celebrate the elevations of outstanding staff and recognise the hard work, dedication and specialist expertise they provide to their clients and bring to the firm.”
Specialising in insurance claims with an industrial relations / employment and retail focus, Peter Dovolil acts for insurers and major corporate clients. He has significant experience in personal injuries claims involving labour hire as well as complex multi-party contractual claims following personal injury on construction and mining sites, claims occurring in retail premises and dust related silicosis claims. In addition, he often reviews and advises on indemnity issues and has a thorough understanding of policy wordings and endorsements, and significant experience acting in relation to property damage matters.
Milton Latta acts for insurers and corporate clients in the defence of property and fire damage claims, recovery and subrogation and personal injury claims. Milton's engineering and manufacturing experience provides him with a particular advantage in matters involving product defects, complex property damage claims and workplace injuries (including construction and mine sites).
Having joined Carter Newell’s Corporate team in the Sydney office last year, Jonathon Wood has over 17 years transactional and advisory experience specialising in mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, joint ventures, shareholder arrangements and corporate governance. His transactional experience extends to working with clients across a broad spectrum of industries with clients ranging from ASX listed companies, institutional investors, insurers and private equity firms.
Being elevated to Special Counsel is Amy Heselwood. Amy specialises in complex commercial litigation, including shareholder disputes as well as contractual and property disputes. She acts for a variety of public and private sector clients, frequently involving multi-party disputes in Supreme Courts, and applies her expertise in using technology to ensure disputes are run more efficiently and effectively. She is increasingly called upon to advise and act for clients who are victims of cyber crime.
Carter Newell is also delighted to welcome Amanda Cann, Special Counsel, to the Construction & Engineering team located in Brisbane. Specialising in construction insurance law, Amanda’s experience extends to the management of public liability, ISR and Contract Works claims, including subrogate recovery, and the provision of complex coverage advice.
“It’s been a challenging time for many of our clients and their industries over the past few years, and the start of 2022 has again brought with it challenges associated with COVID-19. I’m pleased that Carter Newell, as a team, has embraced the challenges we’ve encountered through adaptive and agile practices.
These elevations are an endorsement of not only the firm’s growth and strong values, but Peter, Milton, Jonathon and Amy’s full commitment and service offering to clients at all times, regardless of the circumstances.”
“We are also thrilled with our recent Special Counsel appointments. In Brisbane, Amanda Cann joins our other new recruits from our Melbourne office being Rosalind Gilsenan and Alison Elmes, and Danielle Skinner in our Sydney office. We are very pleased to have such talented lawyers join the firm”, Mr Hopkins said.
