Johanna Caithness, a tax partner of Fillmore Riley LLP, has been awarded the Widdifield Prize for her article “Legal Issues Associated with Informal Public Appeals and Crowdfunding,” which appeared in volume 39 of the Estates, Trusts and Pension Journal.
Each year, a panel drawn from the authors of the Widdifield on Executors and Trustees is selected to choose an award recipient from among the authors who contributed to the most recent volume of the Estates, Trusts and Pensions Journal. The panel used the following criteria in selecting an author:
- The originality of the piece;
- The scope of the material;
- The technical merit, including depth of research, legal analysis, writing quality and the articulation of presented ideas; and
- The creativity, including original thought and contribution to the body of law.
The prize will be awarded at the Ontario Bar Association’s Wills and Trusts Section final meeting for the year.
“The Widdifield prize is recognition by leading trust law experts that Johanna has analyzed a complicated area of law in a way not done before and raised important ideas that others will build upon,” said Cy Fien, a senior tax partner of Fillmore Riley LLP.
