Casner & Edwards LLP partner Sharon C. Lincoln served as a panelist at the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education’s (MCLE) 22nd Annual Nonprofit Law Conference on Thursday, March 18, 2021. During the live webcast, leading practitioners highlighted the most important trends and issues in the law of tax-exempt organizations. Lincoln spoke on the panel “Nonprofits in Trouble,” discussing steps that can be taken when a nonprofit is facing financial hardship and risk of closure.
Lincoln advises nonprofit entities on the wide range of issues related to their tax-exempt status, including formation, funding, governance, executive compensation (including deferred compensation), regulatory compliance, restructuring, international grant making, lobbying, unrelated business income, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, she assists clients in matters directly involving the Internal Revenue Service, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, including audits, appeals, and ruling requests.
