Basil joined Browne Craine & Co (Now Atla Group) in 1997, was appointed a director in 1998 and became the firm's managing director in 2015. He is now Group Chairman and is responsible for managing a wide portfolio of business clients and has a particular interest in niche technology and internet companies. Basil's main strength lies in gaining an in-depth knowledge of his clients' business before transferring his commercial skills to them. He works with a large and varied client base and has specialist knowledge of tax planning and strategic advice with a well-honed ability to improve profit levels and introduce cost-saving schemes.
Basil attained a Commerce degree at the University of Stellenbosch and then later qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994 after completing his training.
In his spare time, Basil enjoys travelling and is passionate about most sports. He is a member of Ramsey Golf Club. As a South African, he is a very keen football, cricket and rugby supporter. Basil is active in the Isle of Man community. He is President of the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association which is preparing to send a team to the Commonwealth Games in Australia. Basil has also served as treasurer for several charities, associations and sports clubs.
