Peter Waiyaki joined the firm in September 2007. He is the head of our Commercial and Corporate Practice Group and the Company Secretarial Practice Group. In addition, he is the Partner in charge of the firm’s Strategy and Development.
He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi and the Kenya School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Diploma in Law. Mr. Waiyaki was admitted to the Roll of Advocates of the High Court of Kenya in December 1992.
He began his legal practice with Hamilton Harrison & Mathews rising to the position of partner in the Commercial Department of Hamilton Harrison & Mathews. He was also the Assistant General Counsel of Kenya Airways Limited before becoming the Chief Executive of Central Depository & Settlement Corporation Limited.
Mr Waiyaki has broad and extensive experience in providing transactional legal services, general corporate finance particularly mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, equity fund raising through private placement, initial public offers and secondary public offers, securitization and corporate restructuring in private and listed companies. He is a recognized authority in Capital Markets transactions and has played a key role in the development of the legal and regulatory framework of the capital markets industry.
He was named as a top commercial lawyer in Chambers Global in 1999 and 2000 and again in 2010 and 2011. He is a Member of the Law Society of Kenya and the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya. He is also a Commissioner of Oaths and Notary public.
He is a council member of Africa International University and a director of several private companies.
