John received his Bachelor and Masters in Law at the University of Zambia and also received a diploma in Trial Advocacy Skills from a National Instiiute of Trial Advocacy program at the University of Southern California in the U.S. John has been a lecturer at the University of Zambia School of Law and has taught undergraduate courses on constitutional law and administrative law. In addition, he is also has the following professional and community activities on his biography:
"Vice Chairman and founding member of Legal Resources Foundation (LRF) from 1991 to date.
June 1999-January 2000, Chairman of the Media Law Reform Committee appointed by the Government of the Republic of Zambia, to identify all statutory provisions which undermine media freedom.
In March 2001, chaired the committee appointed to investigate the allegations of mismanagement of funds at the state owned media: The Zambia Daily Mail.
