Founding Partner at QIL+4 Abogados. He has extensive local and international experience in Compliance, Banking and Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions, Commercial Litigation & Arbitration, Tax Strategy, Insurance, Reinsurance and Securities Law. He has advised foreign financial institutions in structured finance deals, sovereign bond offerings in international capital markets, cross-border transactions and its tax implications, mergers and acquisitions and complex project finance deals involving local and foreign banks and financial institutions and/or borrowers. Jose’s advisory work includes corporate strategy, crisis management, , he has also acted as director to financial institutions, insurance and surety companies, and has been retained by insurance companies and reinsurance syndicates to advise on complex claims and reinsurance disputes involving agreements or dealings governed by Guatemalan or foreign laws.
He heads the firm´s compliance practice. Jose actively advises corporations in implementing Effective Compliance and Governance programs, and leads a team of compliance experts that provide assessment, consulting and training.
Jose has participated in ISO committees on Anti-bribery, Sustainable Procurement, Compliance and Governance and leads a No-profit Organization´s anticorruption section. He has a JD from Universidad Landívar and a Master´s Degree in Finance from the University of Rochester.
He has also served as director for several financial and industrial institutions, and non for profit organizations such as the Center for Corporate Social Responsibility, and actively participates, pro-bono, in institutions that work for the transparency and advancement of the Guatemalan justice system.
José is member of the Guatemalan Bar Association, IBA, International Fiscal Association.
Studies: Graduated with a law degree at Universidad Rafael Landívar in Guatemala in 1992 , and a Master degree in Business Administration and Corporate Finance at the Simon School of Business of the University of Rochester, USA in 1995.
