Cesar P. Manalaysay, a Senior Partner, is also currently the firm’s Managing Partner and the Head of the Corporate Litigation Department. He has been the Managing Partner from January 2003 up to the present. He specializes in corporate litigation, project finance, and real estate.
He has more than 30 years experience in corporate litigation before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Regional Trial Courts, and appellate practice before the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court. He handled intra-corporate controversies involving struggles for control of some of the biggest publicly-listed companies in the Philippines, and engaged in fields as diverse as universal banking, food manufacturing, telecommunications, mining, oil exploration and real estate holdings. He is also part of the team that handles Philippine legal issues for Fraport A.G. of Germany in connection with the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal III arbitration suit, which Fraport A.G. filed in the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington D.C.
He also counseled Siemens AG on its (1,500 mega watt) power generation project in the Philippines and assisted clients on BOT light rail and subway transportation systems. He assisted Unilever to establish an ice cream business in the Philippines thru a joint venture arrangement and also helped in its acquisition and sale of other businesses.
He holds several directorship positions and / or serves as an officer in key companies, such as Siemens, Inc., Siemens Power Operations, Inc., Heraeus Electronic Materials Philippines, Inc., The Thomson (Philippines) Corporation, Amicus Realty, Inc., Milamarka Export Corporation, Fastech Synergy, Ltd., Cebu Figeuroa Estate Corporation, Casa Cebuana, Inc., Fraport (Philippines) Services, Inc., Forbes Park Association, Inc., Philippine Airport and Ground Services, Inc., Philippine Airport and Ground Services Terminals, Inc., and Pru Life U.K.
He earned his Master of Laws degree, with concentration in Corporation Law, at the Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California at Berkeley in 1976, and his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Ateneo De Manila University in 1973, where he graduated with honors. He was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1974.
Mr. Manalaysay is a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), Philippine Bar Association (PBA), and Rotary Club of Manila (Paul Harris Fellow).
