Reece joined Black Helterline LLP in June 2024. Reece came to Black Helterline LLP after clerking for the Hon. Teresa H. Pearson at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Oregon. Prior to his clerkship, Reece graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2021, where he gained experience as an extern with the U.S. District Court of Oregon, among other activities. Before law school, Reece also spent several years working for the Kansas Department of Revenue and various trial courts for the State of Kansas. Reece’s practice areas include bankruptcy and insolvency matters, as well as commercial litigation. His time clerking for the Bankruptcy Court has provided a great deal of exposure to individual and business bankruptcies, adversary proceedings, automatic stay violations, non-dischargeability actions, and disputes over plans of reorganization.

Reece has been a member of the Oregon State Bar’s Debtor-Creditor section since 2021. He has authored multiple articles for the Debtor-Creditor newsletter focusing on emerging issues in bankruptcy, as well as newly developing caselaw. Reece has also shared these findings as a presenter at multiple OSB Debtor-Creditor conferences. Outside of the Debtor-Creditor Section, Reece tries to stay involved with the legal community through the Multnomah Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section and various professional organizations that promote diversity within Oregon’s legal community.
Reece grew up in rural Kansas before obtaining his degree in English literature from the University of Kansas. After a short stint with the Kansas Department of Revenue, Reece moved to Eugene, Oregon to obtain his J.D. at the University of Oregon School of Law. Reece has lived in Portland since August 2021 and currently resides in the Sellwood area with his partner, their labradoodle, Luna, and their cat, Mildred. In his spare time Reece enjoys hiking around the Pacific Northwest, running, volunteering with his local community, and catching up with friends.
