Rivera Ruiz, Marta L.
With more than 20 years of experience as a trial attorney and counsel for local and international clients in human resources, labor and employment matters. Mrs. Rivera-Ruiz is a Non-Equity Partner of the Firm, part of CN&R’s Labor and Employment Department and is a member of the Firm’s Strategic Planning Committee. She has represented employers, both in the private and public sector, in all issues regarding labor and employment before administrative agencies, state, and federal courts, at trial and appellate level. Mrs. Rivera-Ruiz actively assists the Firm’s Litigation Department in issues that involve drafting of opinions, as well as commercial and civil litigation.
Previously, she worked as Law Clerk to Puerto Rico Supreme Court Associate Justice, Hon. Francisco Rebollo-López, and, later, as Law Clerk for United States District Court Judge, Hon. Daniel R. Domínguez; with both, she was responsible for conducting extensive legal research, drafting of legal memoranda and of opinions. As a law student, she interned with United States District Court Judges Hon. Salvador E. Casellas and Hon. Daniel R. Domínguez.
Mrs. Rivera-Ruiz holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Washington University in St. Louis, (1997), where she was a member of the John M. Olin School of Business Dean’s List from 1994-1997. Mrs. Rivera-Ruiz was admitted to the Puerto Rico Bar in the year 2001, after obtaining a 99.2% percentile passing score (top ten scores) at the Puerto Rico Bar examination, year 2000.
Her Juris Doctor degree is from the Inter American University School of Law, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude, and formed part of the school’s Dean’s List from 1997-2000. As a law student, Mrs. Rivera-Ruiz worked as teacher assistant to Prof. Migdalia Fraticelli and Prof. Luis Sánchez-Caso. During law school, she formed part of the National Association of Law Students, and the of the School’s Federal Bar Chapter. She is also admitted to practice in the Federal Courts, in the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Mrs. Rivera-Ruiz is a current member of the Puerto Rico Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association (Puerto Rico Chapter), the American Bar Association, the Society for Human Resource Management and the Association of Labor Relations Practitioners, Puerto Rico Chapter.
